Week 16: Spring has sprung

Our 16 week scan results came through late Friday evening.

Dr J's report tells us the following:
TWIN LIVE GESTATION

Twin 1 (HR 155Bpm) gestational age 16weeks 3 days
Twin 2 (HR 160 Bpm) gestational age 16weeks 4 days

Mrs U is doing fine and her pregnancy is progressing well. You little beauty mate! ok I had to add in some Aussie colloquialism, there is just no other way of saying how stoked we are.

Spring has sprung here in Australia. Spring is new life, which also means getting everything organised for the summer which for us also means getting organised for our Samosa babies. Oh and do I have a LIST! the little miss organiser that I am has a very extensive list, one that I think Sam would normally want to hide from or at the very least negotiate his way out of doing. This spring-clean list I'm 100% certain Sam will execute with his whole heart, knowing that we are working hard together in preparation for our children. When you do something for your kids it doesn't feel like a chore or a grind. It feels like LOVE.

Our spring list is
  • Gardening - get the garden in shape after the stormy winter we had, and also set it up in a way that we can leave it for 4-8 weeks over the stinking hot summer and God willing its survives.
  • Clean out the garage to make room for our spare bed (The Nursery is being set-up)
  • Sand back and stain the out door furniture so it may survive another harsh summer.
  • Relocate items of furniture, decor that might break with kids around. Yes I know getting ahead of myself, but I think if I do it now with a clear mind and not sleep deprived it will be organised well. We need to move the wine rack and glassware out of sight and reach. perhaps more so out of reach for us.
  • Begin my visa application for a medical visa and source all necessary docs for picking up our Samosa babies and being able to bring them back to Australia.
But, the most fun thing on my list is officially setting-up the TOY CORNER. I have a vision for our kids play room. The space is not really a play room, its actually our dining room/area. However with careful and considerate conversation with my very understanding husband,  I may get the opportunity to create such a space where together with our kids can make a mess and most of all MEMORIES.

  1. Hey Guys,
So I have some suggestions for you re:getting for babIES. I spent quite a bit time working out the flow of a nappy change or bathtime scenario. Ie how are you going to have everything in reach, without bending and only one hand available. Also you want to have everything waist height so you are not bending with a baby.

For us that was converting that ridiculously large second bathroom space into the change table and doing all of that in the bathroom rather than a changetable in the nursery. Also you want to make sure you have safe place to put one baby while you deal with another. For us this was this http://www.shoppingnexus.com/baby/pr/comfort-harmony-by-bright-starts-cradling-bouncer-sandstone.html

We got told a bouncer was a no no by the antenatal class, but under some questioning, they said this is because some bad parents use this a substitute to supervision and appropriate use would be a secure place to bubsin eyesight while you prepare bottles, deal with sibling etc etc.

And black white pictures near a change table or bouncer seat is a fantastic trick for creating a safe calming space bubs.

Love the updates and so glad hear the bubs are safe healthy.

Incidentally, it is unusual to have different gestation dates?
    Love Suzs

  2. Hi Suz, thanks for the change table tip. We are going to use an old large desk as the change table, partly because its too darn heavy and big to take out of the nursery, and also because the drawers can be used to store clothes, products etc. The desk is large enough to have all the change items within reach too. and bathroom is next door if we need. With regards to the gestation dates, I guess the Drs base this on size of the baby, so therefore it wouldn't be unusual to have one baby slightly bigger then the other.
